Tawakkul is easy to say, but living it is where the test really begins.
We all say we trust Allah, but how often do we make dua and then act like we still have to figure everything out on our own? How often do we ask for something, but deep down, still want to control the when, the how, and the what ifs?
I was just watching a lecture a few minutes ago, and the story of Musa (peace be upon him) and Khidr was mentioned. Musa, a prophet of Allah, couldn’t wait to learn the hidden wisdom behind Khidr’s actions. And isn’t that exactly how we are? We say we have patience, but we still want to know. We still wonder when things will happen, how our prayers will be answered, and why things are unfolding the way they are.
But Tawakkul isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about trusting the One who does.
“And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him.” (Qur’an 65:3)
Look at Maryam (may Allah be pleased be with her), alone and exhausted, carrying the weight of a trial she never asked for. No help. No clear plan. Only Tawakkul. And then Allah told her: “Shake the trunk of the palm tree toward you; it will drop fresh, ripe dates upon you.” (Qur’an 19:25)
A weak, tired woman shaking a massive date palm, logically, it doesn’t make sense.
But Allah wasn’t asking her to make the dates fall. He was simply asking her to try. And the moment she did, He handled the rest.
That’s Tawakkul. You take the step, and Allah moves the mountain.
So whatever is on your mind today, your future, your career, your health, your relationships, make your dua.
Do what you can. Then let go. Leave it to the One who never fails His servants.
Because Tawakkul doesn’t mean you’ll never feel uncertainty.
It just means you’ll never carry it alone.
