We all have goals and dreams we aspire to reach, it takes a lot of determination and support from others around us to get where we want most especially after being married because we tend to consider what and how our choices affect the home and our other halves.
You can help your spouse achieve their goals by encouraging them and being supportive of their cause.
Practical steps you can follow to be helpful toward your spouse’s goals:
Offer to help them where you can:
You can help by offering to be a part of them reaching their goals. For example, if your spouse is trying to be consistent in waking up daily for tahajjud, you can help them set an alarm and wake them up for it. If they are trying to lose weight, buying them fruits, and vegetables instead of bringing home a jar of ice cream can be the motivation they need to drop off the weight.
Let them know they are doing well:
It feels really good to be appreciated after giving your all to something. For many of us, we aren’t acknowledged for our efforts very often and this makes us abandon our goals halfway.
Be subtle in your approach to advise them and give your opinion on things they aren’t doing right.
Don’t be that partner who mocks their significant other when they couldn’t achieve a goal. Focus on the things they are doing to get to their goal and not their failures.
Try to reduce their workload if you can:
If your spouse has a lot on them, it might be necessary to relieve them of some of their responsibilities, so it won’t be a hindrance to them accomplishing their goals.
Try and look for ways to take something off them in a short time so they can focus their attention on achieving their goals.
It will be much easier for us to reach our goals when we have someone going at it with us. Working toward something together will build unity in your relationship.
It is an important part of relationship-building that you help the one you love to the finish line.
If your partner has a dream, find a way to help them reach it. Your gestures will mean a lot to them and go on to solidify your relationship.
Help your spouse be the best person they can be. It’s so rewarding to see them be successful.
I will leave you with the words of Allah that say, “The believers, men and women, are helpers and supporters of one another, they enjoin what is right and forbid what is evil” (Quran9:71)
